True North Line Dance was founded with a simple goal: to bring Canada's line dance community together. Through a national championship series, educational workshops, and unforgettable social events, we provide opportunities for dancers to connect, challenge themselves, and share their passion for line dance.
How True North Line Dance Began
True North Line Dance was first dreamed up at the end of 2025, with formal planning taking flight in early 2026. Within just one week, our first venue was booked, setting the stage for an explosive debut. Our inaugural event featured the renowned Mark Paulino, drawing 150+ workshop participants and a social crowd of over 450 dancers who gathered to witness the crowning of the very first True North Line Dance Champions.
The overwhelming response from competitors across Canada made one thing clear: our community was ready for more. Driven by this success, we made the bold decision to go nationwide. Starting August 2026, we are rolling out a Canada-wide series of events, bringing high-energy competition and connection to dancers from coast to coast.

Spencer founded True North Line Dance with the vision of creating Canada's premier national line dance championship series. He oversees event planning, sponsorships, venue partnerships, instructor relations, and the continued growth of the organization across the country.

Are workshops suitable for absolute beginners?
Workshops are not designed for absolute beginners; they are best for dancers with some experience who have danced for a while. Absolute beginners should start with local classes or social dances to build a foundation before joining workshop sessions.
How do I qualify for the national final?
The top 3 in every division qualify for the national final. Qualifiers take place at various regional events throughout the year.
I have never line danced before; where should I start?
Welcome to the community! Absolute beginners should start with local classes or join our social dances. While workshops are best for dancers with some experience, social dances are the perfect way to get moving in a fun, low-pressure environment.
What if I just want to social dance and not compete?
You are exactly why we do this! While we run high-level competitions, our heart is in the social dance community. Every event has dedicated social dancing time for all levels.
